A neuroma is an inflamed nerve that runs between the metatarsal bones. The bones can pinch the nerve and cause pain, numbness, or burning. A planar callus is a buildup of hard skin on the ball on the front underside of the foot. This can feel like a stone bruise.
TREATMENT: the treatment approach varies according to the severity of the problem. In mild cases, shoe ware and orthotic may alleviate some pain. In more severe cases, surgical intervention may be necessary.
THERE IS AN ANSWER OTHER THAN SURGERY!
We have a non-surgical treatment of injecting a sclerosing agent to ablate the nerve. This is done (1-2) times a week for a series of (7-10) injections. We first use a computerized needle injection machine to initially numb the area, which feels like a small hair being plucked out. After the area is numb, then the injection is given.
